God Is Present to the Moment
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult." Psalms 46:1-3 NRSV
Even when I am distracted, hurried, and consumed by selfish ambition causing me to lose focus on the present moment right in front of me, I can trust that God is "very present" to the moment. We see this theme throughout Psalm 46. Again and again, the psalmist's words remind us that God is "very present (vs.1)," that He is "in the midst of the city (vs.5)," and that He is "with us (vs.7, 9)."
Regardless of our circumstances, God is present with us. He is not far off or preoccupied with more important things. God is not distracted or in a hurry. On the contrary, He is consistent and trustworthy at all times and in all seasons of life; His desire to be present with you in the moment never changes.
Like a builder laying the foundation of a house, we need to get this truth deep into our hearts. Take a minute now to ask God to reveal His presence to you as you go about your day's activities.
