Quieting the Inner Noise In Our Minds

“For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.” Psalms‬ ‭62:1, 5‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Why is it so hard to just "be with" God? To just sit in His presence.

Our minds dance like butterflies from thought to thought. Sitting still for any length of time just isn't natural.

We'd rather be fixing something, studying something or getting answers to the challenges on our plate for that day.

Why are you and I doing all of the talking, when God has all the answers? Why is listening so difficult? It's that inner voice inside us that just won't stop talking.

Even in solitude and silence, when no one else is around, when it's just us and God. Even when we have done our best to quiet the external noise. When we have given it our best attempt at finding silence. Quieting the inner noise, the inner voices in our head, in an attempt to find true silence, that is what we long for.

Lord, help us to be still. Abiding in your presence. For no other purpose than to just "be with" You!
