Step Into Your Kingdom Mission and Calling
Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia, and I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Judea that are in Christ; they only heard it said, “The one who formerly was persecuting us is now proclaiming the faith he once tried to destroy.” And they glorified God because of me. Believer, God created you with a unique plan and purpose in mind. Your faith journey is part of God's larger story of the Church through the ages. In the Apostle Paul, we see a faithful servant of Christ entrusted with bringing the Gospel message to the Gentiles. Through his life and ministry, many would come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, bringing glory to the Father in Heaven (See Galatians 2:7-9). In much the same way, as apprentices of Jesus, you and I have been entrusted with a mission and a calling.
Every follower of Jesus has the same universal mission: glorify God. We are called to be "salt and light" to a lost and dark world. Jesus words remind us that we are to "let [our] light shine before others, so that they may see [our] good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." (See Matthew 5:13-16) I love the clarity with which author and speaker Jordan Raynor drives home this point, "The mission of your life is to glorify God. Period. Full Stop."
So, as apprentices of Jesus, you and I share the same universal mission: glorify God. However, God has graciously given each of us a distinct and dynamic calling. Distinct because you are a unique soul with experiences like no other person walking the planet. Experiences that have and continue to shape how you see God and the world around you. Dynamic because as you journey with Christ through the various seasons of life, your calling is continuously morphing into something new and fresh.
As an example, in my current season of life, the calling that God has placed on my heart looks like this:
Apprentice of Jesus Christ
Husband of noble character
Father who protects, trains, and guides
Disciple maker with a global missional mindset
Author and speaker who helps busy Christians become more like Jesus
But what about you? What is your unique calling in your current season of life? Maybe it looks like mine. Perhaps it doesn't. Either way, it is critical to remember that no one is too young or old to be used by God to bring glory to His name and to advance His Kingdom. Take time today to consider the unique call that God has placed on your life and how He might want to use your faith story to minister to the hearts of others.
